Along with a bigger, stronger chest, shirt-straining arms and perfectly carved six-pack abs, most guys want their leg muscles to really pop. Contrary to what you might think, building bigger legs without a gym full of equipment isn't impossible. Below, we showcase how you can pump up your legs with little or no weights, so no squirming under a deep barbell squat or [https://haderslevwiki.dk/index.php/Bruger:TawannaVentura6 enhance male vitality] tearing a deadlift from the floor necessary. In fact, all you need is a small amount of room and a shed load of tenacity. To help you learn how to get bigger legs (calves, quads, hamstrings and more all included), we tapped up personal trainer Alex Crockford to draw you a personal blueprint to getting stacked down below.

This workout is a home workout using no equipment other than usual things you'll find at home,' explains Crockford. But just because it's a weight-free workout, it doesn't mean it'll be a walk in the park. You need to feel it working, so if it’s too easy you can add weight with home dumbbells or anything heavy enough at home,' continues Crockford. Sounds like a win-win. How to do it: Standing tall and keeping your chest up at all times, take a long step forward with one leg, bending your front knee until the back knee touches the ground. Stand up explosively, pause and repeat with the other leg, moving forward. Reps: 12 Sets: 3 Rest: No rest, go straight into squat jumps.
Over the last year I've fallen in love with making music again, and it's all thanks to modular synthesisers. But to understand why this is such a big step for me, you need to know just how surprising it is that I'm now "in to" electronic music. I've always been "into" music, but I used to be really into music. I played in lots of bands, tried my hand as a session musician, tried to start a record label, ran a music blog (for, like, years!). But in 2013 it all sort of fizzled out. In retrospect, I ran out of steam. On paper things were going in the right direction - I could legitimately call myself a session musician, I sold a couple of commercial compositions, and I even had a song of mine on the radio (that £6 royalty cheque was a Big Deal, let me tell you!), but I never really saw enough success in any area to persevere.

Except, maybe, the blog - that worked and was fun. Making that blog was so fun, in fact, that 12 years later I now have a pretty decent career as a frontend engineer making things for the web. But the "music" aspect soon fell by the wayside. I shuttered the blog in 2013 I never looked back, focusing instead on frontend engineering. For a long time I was more interested in writing code than writing music. A couple of my projects touched on music but the focus was always on the technology, never on actually creating music. The Web Audio API featured heavily in my CodePen tinkering and I built a whole conference talk around my experiments recreating a guitarists' delay pedal in JavaScript. But at no point was I making music. Not even in private or just for fun. If I remembered, I'd run a few drills on the guitar to maintain my [https://besmaklab.com/Account/ChangeCulture?lang=tr-TR&returnUrl=https://hikvisiondb.webcam/wiki/Unlock_Your_Potential_With_Alpha_Surge_Male:_A_Comprehensive_Guide muscle building support for men] memory but I wasn't ever composing or creating anything new.

This story hinges on a single moment: I saw something and [https://wiki.internzone.net/index.php?title=Tween_And_Teen_Health muscle building support for men] was instantly hooked. But the groundwork for that one incident was laid over a long, long time. How did I get into electronica? It's a big leap for an ex-musician who always focused on acoustic instruments (heck, I wrote my undergraduate dissertation on the evolution of English folk music, and my post-grad thesis was an extremely contrived deep-dive into the "album" as a medium). But there were two things that lit the spark of interest that would ignite into a full-blown obsession with modular synths: GAS and the Web Audio API. GAS - a.k.a. Gear Acquisition Syndrome. As in, "oh boy, those new Strymon guitar pedals have triggered my GAS. RIP my bank account". Guitar pedals are a fantastic introduction into the world of modular synths: small units that do one thing to an audio signal. It already sounds very "modular", am I right?

And I've always loved guitar pedals. In fact, my GAS covers all guitar-related gear. Microphones, audio interfaces, cables, pedals, the guitars themselves. I'm not going to lie; I get just as much (if not more!) pleasure from owning all these nice shiny things than I do from actually using them. The second factor that paved the way for an interest in modular was the Web Audio API. A side effect of playing around with using JavaScript to create and manipulate audio was that (almost by a process of osmosis) I was exposed to concepts and terms that originated in the world of hardware synthesisers. VCAs and VCOs became part of my lexicon, along with more familiar concepts like filtering and mixing. Bit by bit, without even being aware of it at the time, I was learning how to synthesise sound. So what was that single moment that opened my eyes to the world of modular synths? Quite simply, it was a YouTube video.

I've kept a weather eye on Andrew Huang's musical adventures for a while, but I stumbled on his Modular Synthesis Explained video while looking for something cool to include in my newsletter. Specifically, the shot of his mega system at work at 15:30 mins touched something deep inside me. I didn't know what it was, or what it was doing, or how it worked, but I knew I wanted one for myself. Andrew has made lots of videos about his eurorack system over the years (it's fascinating to see the system grow over time) and he's made some fantastic "explainer" videos. YouTube, it turns out, is a great place to ramp up your GAS to extreme levels. Why has modular made me fall back in love with making music? I'm about a year into my modular journey at this point. It was twelve-ish months ago that I first learned what a modular synth was, and another few months of research and obsessive YouTube bingeing before I bit the bullet and bought my first modules.

I’ve been training consistently for 14 months now. I’ve been at maintenance calories for the majority of this time. My deadlift hasn’t budged in a long time, and is stuck at 170 pounds. My overhead press is also stuck at 66 pounds. I’m getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep every night, eating 0.8-1 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day, and staying slightly to moderately active on rest days. I’m a grad student and I’ve been on anxiety meds for 3 years now, so I can’t say my stress level may not be a factor. I’m becoming discouraged by my lack of progress this early in my training career and wanted to ask if eating at a surplus is the only answer for strength gains? You’re doing everything right so far, and you know that: When people first start lifting, or are returning to lifting from a long break, they can get pretty strong pretty quickly while eating only enough to "maintain," otherwise known as "maintenance calories," or just the right amount of food for your body to stay the same weight.

Usually, during this time, your body is losing fat and gaining a bit of muscle (muscle weighs more than fat, so if you’re staying the same weight, this usually means you become a little smaller). This is sometimes called "recomping," and I found it to be a very beautiful time in my life, because my "maintenance calories" were about 2300 a day, about 50 percent more than I had ever allowed myself to eat, because everyone and their mother said that to "lose fat" and "look toned," you had to eat 1200 calories a day. But this period comes to an end for everyone, and then you’re left with what to do next, which depends mostly on, uh, what you want to do next. If you want to just continue lifting as a workout and eating that same amount of food, you can, but you won’t predictably get stronger quickly the way you did for the first several months.

If you do want to get stronger, most experts would agree that the most straightforward way to do that is by "bulking." Bulking means eating more (modestly to wildly, depending on your goals) with the aim of giving your body more fuel to build more muscle and push your numbers in the gym. As beautiful a time as recomping was for me, bulking was somehow even more. I lived my entire adult life and some of my teens terrified of gaining weight, convinced putting even a toe over the 1500 calorie line would doom me. This was even when I became a fairly aggressive runner, and I’m not entirely sure how I lived. When recomping stopped working and I still wanted to get stronger, I had a choice to make: Live in fear, or bravely eat more calories. Reader, I ate more calories. It was not even that many more calories (2700 or so each day over three months; most sources will guide you toward a 10-20 percent surplus), but it meant lots of extra carbs and fats, cookies and ice cream every night.

Best of all, it meant I crushed it in the gym every single session. Weights flew, I was rarely sore, and each time I got stronger. I did gain weight, but that was the goal; there are formulas for this, but I wasn’t aiming to gain more that ten or [http://wiki.dirbg.com/index.php/User:FaustoMendis official Alpha Surge Male website] so pounds, knowing that only about half of that or less would be muscle, because people and especially women can’t gain muscle that quickly at all (the actual number is somewhat dependent on your current lean muscle mass or body weight, but my point is that you don’t gain weight aimlessly or with abandon, [http://tpp.wikidb.info/%E5%88%A9%E7%94%A8%E8%80%85:LottieFrias official Alpha Surge Male website] unless you’re "dirty bulking" and just eating as much as humanly possible, but that’s not necessary for most people). And though for a long time I deeply hated my body, found things wrong with it, and felt like I could never fully wrangle it into submission, I never loved it more than when I’d thickened up with some glutes and delts.
