City Bus Drivers Vote To Strike Over Pay

Bus services in Doncaster are because of be disrupted after more than 230 chauffeurs voted to take commercial action over pay.


First Bus drivers in the city will go on strike on 28 and 30 March, and 7, 22 and 24 April after turning down a deal which did not provide them pay parity with associates in Sheffield, the Unite union said.


Unite basic secretary Sharon Graham said the business could afford to pay its motorists in Doncaster the very same quantity and was "choosing to put revenues over individuals".


Zoe Hands, of First Bus in the area, said the deal of a 7% rise backdated to January 2026 was "amongst the best driver pay offers this year".


"We are really disappointed and saddened at the decision to proceed with strikes," she stated, adding that the company "recognised the strength of sensation" on the issue.


"We stay committed to working constructively with Union agents to reach a fair and sustainable arrangement," Hands said.


"Our door remains available to continue discussions and prevent unnecessary commercial action."


'Unfair scenario'


The Unite members associated with the disagreement work at the Doncaster Bus Depot on Leger Way, which operates a number of paths impacting the city centre.

Regional officer Christian Ratcliffe said: "Unite members in Doncaster should not be financially punished for working a few miles down the roadway.


"This unjust circumstance can't continue and Unite is demanding First Bus treats its hard-working chauffeurs relatively."


Unite said FirstGroup was "highly lucrative", with incomes of ₤ 833.6 m for the six months to September 2025, and could pay for to satisfy the strikers' needs.
